The Bekasi Police have arrested 17 members of three motorcycle gangs suspected of stealing motorcycles in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.
'We have arrested men from the Brigez, Moonracer and XTC motorcycle gangs. These gangs have been on our radar since August, when we received up to 20 police reports [about them],' Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Sudjarno said on Monday.
He added that the police had confiscated 15 motorcycles, 10 sharp weapons, a 'T' key, seven mobile phones, two replica firearms and one airsoft gun. Also confiscated were a number of items of clothing, banners and identification cards carrying the gangs' emblems.
Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Isnaeni Ujiarto said that the gangs usually targeted motorcycles belonging to factory workers who leave work in the early hours of the morning. They were also quick to use violence if their victims tried to fight back, said Isnaeji.
He explained that the suspects could face multiple charges for group beating under Article 170 of the Criminal Code, assault under Article 351 of the Code, violent robbery under Article 365 and robbery under Article 363.
