COIMBATORE: A DMK functionary was booked on Monday for sharing a derogatory picture of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa on his social networking site. He is absconding and police have formed a team to nab him.
Madukkarai police received a complaint from K Shanmugaraja, 40, president of Madukkarai town panchayat and Madukkarai union AIADMK secretary on Monday morning. In his complaint he said that one of the AIADMK party members got information that N Ramu, 50, of Madukkarai, who is town secretary of DMK had shared an image with a derogatory comment against AIADMK supremo on his social networking site.
The image was allegedly shared by Ramu on his Facebook account on Sunday after Jayalalithaa was convicted by the court.
"The image and comment were derogatory. So, we approached the police," said Shanmugaraja. Based on the complaint, Madukkarai police have registered an FIR against Ramuunder sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 66 (A) (B) of the Information Technology Act.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ramu didn't share the post. But one of his Facebook friends posted the image on his wall. He was not a net savvy and he was not aware about the image. He is on the run. TNN
Meanwhile Madukkarai police asked Ramu's son for inquiry on Monday. He also went to the police station and told the police that his father was not active in the facebook. The image was created by someone and over 15,000 people shared and liked the images. DMK party sources said that he also requested the police officials to book the 15,000 people before arrest his father. Later, he was let off from the police station and a team of police have been formed to nab the absconding Ramu.
A DMDK councillor Malli alias P Subramani (37) from Mettupalayam municipality in Coimbatore district was booked twice for making derogatory statements against former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on his facebook account in August. He has been spending his days behind the bars at Coimbatore central prison.
