Jazz standards and contemporary tunes

BFlat will be presenting ‘Kalpana Rao Quartet’ (jazz standards/contemporary jazz) on October 4, from 9 pm at BFlat, Indiranagar.

It will feature Kalpana Rao (Switzerland) - vocals, Aman Mahajan - piano, Prakash KN (bass) and Jeoraj George (drums). There will be a late night DJ set by ‘Unnayanaa’ (a.k.a. Prashanth Pallemoni). 

Kalpana Rao is a professional jazz singer and vocal coach for jazz, pop and rock. Born in Germany and raised in India, she lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland, which has been her home for the past 28 years. 

Born the first of three singer sisters (sibling of pop diva Suneeta Rao and Arati Rao) and having sung since she was four years old, Kalpana holds her listeners captive with her sensual tonality and multi-faceted voice; the roots of which are in her Indian upbringing and music.

The evening will feature Kalpana and Bangalore’s own Jazz-elite Aman Mahajan (piano), Prakash KN (bass) and Jeoraj George (drums). The Quartet will perform popular jazz standards and contemporary tunes as well as a few surprise arrangements of surprise tunes!   

Aman Mahajan is a pianist/composer and computer-musician/producer. Fortunate to have worked with a wide variety of musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds, Mahajan is now based out of Bangalore, where he leads jazz/world ensemble Refuge. He regularly writes, produces and performs music with ‘Mystik Vibes’ (a cross-cultural band) and Kaya (poetry/song with live electronics and improvisation). 

KN Prakash is an accomplished musician and producer and one of the most sought after sessions bass players in Bangalore, having played at major music festivals in India and abroad.
