ABC Network has given a put pilot commitment with a penalty to “Funhouse,” the family comedy from Mandeville and Fred Goss through ABC Studios.
Based on a true story, the project follows Jack Babbit as he decides to kidnap his estranged father and move him and his 24-hour male nurse out of a retirement facility and into his already chaotic home. The tensions between Jack, his wife, three kids and extended family eventually work as catalysts of self-discovery and family bonding.
Goss will write and executive produce. David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Laurie Zaks of Mandeville will also executive produce.
This marks the third sale to ABC for the UTA-repped Mandeville, which has an overall with ABC Studios. The shingle previously sold a mystery drama by Jenna Bans and the Steven Baigelman crime procedural, “LA Crime: Sunset Strip.” Goss, who also acts and directs, is represented by UTA, Epiphany Management and Hansen Jacobson. He also worked with Lorne Michaels and Nick Holly to create the 2006 situation comedy “Sons & Daughters” for ABC.
