Bhadohi tense after idol desecration

VARANASI : Damaging of idols of Goddess Durga cand Goddess Laxmi after a clash between people of two communities on Sunday, led to tension in Mahuapur village in Bhadohi district. Officials had to replace the damaged idols by new ones to bring the situation under control.
Heavy police force was deployed to avoid further escalation of trouble.
People of the village dominated by Yadavs organize Durga Puja for past many years.
The villagers had brought idols on Sunday morning and kept it on a platform outside the house a family of another community. In afternoon, a woman of family came out of the home and started draining waste water.
On seeing, it puja organizers asked her to avoid draining waste water till Durga Puja celebration ends.
Several others of community reached there and indulged in heated argument.
It was followed by manhandling and throwing of stones in which parts of idols were damaged.
SDM Umakant Tripathi and circle officer A K Singh reached the village with heavy police force.
The villagers blocked Chauri Road and staged a demonstration.
The officials arranged new idols to replace damaged once immediately.
The villagers ended the stir. Tripathi informed that cases had been lodged against both groups with Chauri police.
