Mehak leads 1st National Jr Chess

LAHORE - Mehak Gul from Lahore is leading the 1st National Junior Chess Championship along with Rana Sufyan and Yousuf Azeem from Faisalabad after completion of three rounds on first day. All three young players have won their first three games and Mehak is tied to play Rana Sufyan in the fourth round. Among other hot favorites, Shafen Bader and Zorez Shabkhez slipped behind after losing one point each. The championship is being organised by Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) here at the auditorium of Pakistan College of Law. CFP secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza stressed the need for creating more opportunities for country’s youth in sports. Future plans of the CFP include holding of National Youth Chess Championship (U-12 & U-10) in Hyderabad from 18th to 19th October this year.–Staff Reporter
