Yet another murder in Madurai

In yet another murder reported in the district, a man was found dead with his head crushed beyond recognition at a coconut grove near Kochadai on Friday evening.

Police said the deceased was wearing a T-shirt and pants. The Nagamalai Pudukottai police shifted the body to Government Rajaji Hospital. This is the eighth murder reported in Madurai since September 15.

Imposter steals jewels

An imposter stole three sovereigns of gold jewels from a house after sending out a 13-year-old boy, who was alone, on an errand at Austinpatti on Wednesday.

Police said the man approached the boy, son of S. Azhagarsamy (43), posed himself as his father’s friend and that he had come in search of mango leaves. When the boy said he was alone at home, the man handed over Rs.10 and asked him to buy beedis for him. When the boy returned, he found a jewel kept in an almirah missing.

Dies in freak accident

Rash and negligent driving by a TNSTC bus driver led to the death of T. Kavitha (32) of Therkku Theru on Thursday. The conductor was hurrying up passengers to get ready for alighting much before the speeding vehicle could stop at the bus stop.

Kavitha, who was returning home from Melur after buying vegetables, was standing near the footboard. The driver, Gunasekaran, suddenly swerved the bus from the four-lane highway into the service lane. The woman lost her balance and fell down from the vehicle. She died at Government Rajaji hospital. The woman was taking care of her husband who had limited mobility after he met with a road accident recently.
