Singer T.M. Krishna was conferred the fifth Indira Sivasailam Endowment Medal at the Music Academy on Thursday. Mallika Srinivasan, chairman of Tractors and Farm Equipments Limited, spoke of how the late Mrs. Sivasailam, an ardent lover of carnatic music and a critic herself, often marvelled at the gnanam that Mr. Krishna had at an early age. “I recall the time when Krishna sent her the first copy of Margazhi Ragam for her review and she spent the last few weeks of her life both enjoying and responding to his request,” she said.

“He has combined classical mastery with neo-classical originality, demonstrating the power of venturesome imagination to deliver continued excellence,” Ms. Srinivasan  said.

Mr. Krishna said, “She was a wonderful human being from whom we can learn guru bhakti . She was absolutely devoted to her guru D.K. Jayaraman,” he said. He requested the Music Academy to dedicate this year’s December Music Festival to Mandolin U. Shrinivas who passed away last week. The event was followed by a concert by T.M. Krishna.
