The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Shubha from Bangalore, who was found guilty of murdering her fiancé B.V. Girish, a software engineer, in 2003.

A Bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice V. Gopala Gowda ordered Shubha to be granted bail. Her criminal appeal challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision upholding the life imprisonment awarded to her by the trial court in July 2010 has been pending in the Supreme Court since 2011.

The others convicted in the crime include Shubha’s lover, D. Arun Varma, his cousin Dinesh, and A. Venkatesha.

Girish, an Intel employee, was murdered on December 3, 2003, four days after he was engaged to Shubha.

According to the prosecution, Girish had gone out with Shubha for dinner. The couple stopped near the inner ring road at Koramangala to see an aircraft land. Girish was assaulted with a rod and was shifted to hospital, where he died.

Shubha and Verma were arrested in January 2004 for the murder along with the other two.
