Deportivo La Coruna's nightmare week suffered a fittingly miserable end as they went down to a stoppage-time goal at home to Almeria.

Having lost 8-2 to Real Madrid at the Riazor last weekend and then suffered a 2-1 derby defeat at arch-rivals Celta Vigo in midweek, Depor would have been desperate to pick up something from the visit of seemingly easier opponents.

That looked set to be the case with the match apparently headed for goalless draw - only for Almeria to snatch a 1-0 victory through Edgar's strike two minutes into added time.

Almeria's triumph sees them climb level with seventh-placed Villarreal and four other teams on eight points, while Depor remain near the foot of the standings on four points.

Promoted Depor, whose next two matches pit them against top-four sides Sevilla and Valencia, would have viewed the visit of Almeria as a chance to make amends to their fans for recent failures, and things looked promising enough for the Galicians early on.

Helder Postiga tested Ruben Martinez after six minutes and Isaac Cuenca drilled an effort wide four minutes later.

Almeria then showed an attacking threat, with Edgar drawing a finger tip save out of German Lux, before Depor came within inches of taking a 27th-minute lead when Cuenca's shot hit the post.

Depor came close again in the 62nd minute when Postiga's header from a Haris Medunjanin free-kick brought a parry out of Martinez.

As the match wore on Almeria came into it more and substitute Thievy Bifouma was twice denied by Lux.

Depor continued to push for the breakthrough, but it was from one of their attacks that Almeria broke and netted their last-gasp winner.

Roberto Canella was tackled deep in Almeria territory and the visitors launched a devastating counter-attack that involved three players, a clever step-over, and was finished off by Edgar, whose shot from the edge of the box went in off the crossbar.

Edgar's strike looked like it might have taken a slight deflection off a home defender before it flew over Lux and into the far top corner, which would perfectly sum up what has been a demoralising week Depor will not want to repeat in a hurry.
