District-based NGO Sarvodaya Youth Organisation (SYO) will set up ‘Support Centres for Women’, with help from the German Federal Ministry for Economic and Development in association with the agency Karl Kübel Stiftung für Kind und Familie (Karl Kuebel Foundation For Child And Family).
As part of the initiative, SYO will work for the better implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act, 2005. It also has the involvement of all government agencies concerned.
SYO secretary Pallepadu Damodar said the support centres would be established at Jangaon, Warangal and Mulugu, covering respective revenue divisions. Elaborating on the initiative, Mr. Damodar said SYO would engage itself in advocacy lobbying for the implementation of PWDV Act and set up coordination and watch committees to work with government agencies.
He thanked the German government and Karl Kübel Stiftung for coming forth to support the cause of women against whom the acts of violence have become rampant in the recent past.
“Their cooperation would go long way towards protecting women’s rights,” he said.
