Undefeated Akhisar Belediyespor stun Fenerbahce
Akhisar Belediyespor's Greek forward Gekas finds the net twice to topple Istanbul heavyweights
ANKARA
Akhisar Belediyespor defeated Fenerbahce 2-0 at home in the Turkish Spor Toto Super League's matchday 4 on Sunday night.
The home side’s Greek forward Theofanis Gekas scored the leading goal in a breakaway on the 22nd minute.
Fenerbahce's Portuguese centre-back Bruno Alves was a little bit too late to clear the ball with a header just before the goal.
Gekas doubled the score just after the break in the 48th minute. Bruno Mezenga made a cross from right, Gekas finished in the box to make it 2-0. In the 60th minute Fenerbahce center-back Bruno Alves' free kick clipped the woodwork.
In stoppage time Fenerbahce forward Emmanuel Emenike found a great chance to score a consolation goal but Akhisar Belediyespor goalkeeper Oguz Daglaroglu saved it.
Within the same minute home team forward Mehmet Akyuz's shot from close range was denied by Fenerbahce goalkeeper Mert Gunok and the final whistle was blown.
The win against the Istanbul club sees Akhisar Belediyespor leading the league, undefeated on 10 points.
