Michael Che made his first appearance as co-anchor for Weekend Update on “Saturday Night Live” Saturday night, flubbing a few lines, but ultimately drawing laughs with some help from co-stars.

The comedian and writer hosted with Colin Jost, and the two riffed on everything from the NFL to “Orange is the New Black” to politics. Cecily Strong, who most recently sat in Che’s seat in the Weekend Update desk, appeared as her popular character The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party, with Che on the receiving end of the conversation.

20-year-old newcomer Pete Davidson joined in the segment as the show’s resident young person, while veteran Kenan Thompson appeared for a bit in which Che and Jost offered words of encouragement to President Obama.

It was announced earlier this month that Che was replacing Strong on the Weekend Update desk. Pointing fun at the news is familiar territory for Che — he was previously a correspondent on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.” He also served as a writer for “SNL.”
