Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that security has been beefed up on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border to prevent untoward incidents, in the wake of AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa being sentenced by a Special Court here on Saturday.
“We have taken all steps to ensure peace and prevent untoward incidents in the border areas as well in the city,” Mr. Siddaramaiah told presspersons after flagging off the Yuva Chetana motor bike rally from the Vidhana Soudha here. He said it was not fair to blame Karnataka for the imprisonment of Ms. Jayalalithaa. Ms. Jayalalithaa was convicted to four years’ simple imprisonment and a Rs. 100 crore fine in the Rs. 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case by the Special Court located near the Central Jail in Bangalore.
“Karnataka has nothing to do with the court and its verdict. There is no connection between the court verdict and Karnataka. The special court was set up in Bangalore based on the directive of the Supreme Court,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said. He said an adequate number of police personnel have been deployed in the city and areas bordering Tamil Nadu to ensure normalcy.
