City-based musicians have been invited to participate in a 51-hour non stop music festival to will be held in Latur, Maharashtra.

VADODARA: City-based musicians have been invited to participate in a 51-hour non stop music festival to will be held in Latur, Maharashtra. Gaekwad brothers, who are known for their 'shehnai-jaltarang' jugalbandi, will participate in the non-stop music festival along with prominent musicians from the country. Three members from the renowned group are the only musicians invited from Gujarat to participate in the event known as 'Sangeet Mahayagna', which is organized by Saraswati Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Latur.
Two brothers from the group, Dattatray Gaekwad (65), Sunil Gaekwad (48) and their uncle Jayvantrao (75) will be among the 151 artists who will be performing at the event. The event which will be held between September 30 and October 2 will have budding classical musicians as well as renowned artists from all over India, who will perform back to back. While Dattatray will be playing jaltarang, Sunil shehnai and Jayvantrao harmonium during the music festival.
The concert by Gaekwad brothers will be held on the last day of the event, October 2. Gaekwad brothers have been keeping the tradition of performing shehnai and jaltarang alive through eight generations. The family has taken forward its legacy from Shehnai Pandit Ganpatraoji Vasaikar, who on invitation from erstwhile ruler of Baroda state Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad had shifted to Baroda from Pune where he was not only honoured with the 'Kala Jyoti' khitab but had also started a formal school of shehnai.
