Asian Games: Indians in hunt for bronze

Incheon: It was not the best of days for India's main hope, Udayan Mane, who shot a par round, Manu Gandas (68) and Feroz Garewal (69) ensured India were still in the hunt for a medal to keep the streak going for the fourth Asian Games in a row.

The Indians (628) were tied for fourth alongside China, but were just one stroke shy of the third third-placed Thais (627), while way ahead of them Chinese Taipei (613) and defending champions Korea (617) seemed to be locked in their battle for gold and silver.

The three best scores count each day and the lowest total wins the team title.

In the individual section, too, first-round leader Chinese Taipei's Pan Cheng Tsung (65) who brought the week's best card on Saturday, was 16-under and just one shot ahead of overnight leader Korea's Youm Eunho (68). Another Korean Kim Namhun (66) was third at 11-under, while Thailand's Danthai Boonma (67) was fourth at nine-under. India's Mane and Gandas were tied fifth alongwith Taipei's Kao Teng (71) were at eight-under.

With one more round to go in the competition at the Dream Park Country Club, Feroz Garewal (70-73-69) was tied 13th and Samarth Dwivedi (71-73-75) was 32nd.

Individually, Gandas made the biggest move in the third round with four-under 68, while Feroz Garewal, who was five-under at one stage on Saturday, slipped to three-under 69.

Mane, said, "I struggled with putts today, and I did not find my right pace. I also had a lot of lip-outs. My shot routine and my pre-shot routine were all good. However, it did not pan out for some reasons. I hope I do better on the final day."

He added, "We started the tournament with an average first round, but have had good second and third rounds. We will carry on the momentum in fourth round."

Among women's section, India is still eighth with a total of 438 after three rounds. Gurbani Singh (75-72-70) is the best Indian at tied 14th with a total of 217, while Aditi Ashok (78-75-71) was 21st and Astha Madan (75-79-78) was 24th.
