A small-scale industrialist gave a new lease of life for seven persons when his family donated his organs soon after he was declared brain dead. His two kidneys and liver benefitted three people, while his heart valves and corneas benefitted four.

Krishnappa (45), a resident of Kunthlu Koppalu near Devalapura in Nagamangala, met with a road accident near his village on September 25. He was declared brain dead on September 26.

Volunteers from the Zonal Coordination Committee for Karnataka (ZCCK) spoke to the family and told them the significance of organ donation. When they could convince the family, they coordinated the organ harvesting and transplants on Friday and Saturday. Krishnappa leaves behind wife and son.

ZCCK, set up by the government in 2005, can be contacted on its 24-hour hotline number 9845006768 or at zcckbangalore@gmail.com or Log on to www.zcck.in
