MANGALORE: There is a wrong notion among people that Akashavani is a pro-government ideological tool. In fact, Akashavani and Doordarshan work as a constructive catalyst, said Vasanthkumar Perla, station director of All India Radio (AIR), Mangalore, while delivering a lecture on ‘Radio Programme Production’ organized by the communication club of department of Mass Communication and Journalism here on Friday.

According to Perla, no other media is broadcasting a programme that addresses all subjects, formats and genders. AIR fulfils all aspects of information, education and entertainment, he said.
“Classical music, perceived as the face of our cultural identity, would have been destroyed if there was no support from Akashavani. It is working as a great defender and harbinger of our culture,’’ added Perla.
Commenting on the recent trends in the media world, he said that it is not the duty of a responsible medium to broadcast or publish the materials that promote superstition. Unfortunately, most of our mainstream media these days go after mere sensation. The duty of the media is to construct the society and not to destruct, he observed.
Answering to queries, he said that Akashavani is providing opportunities to students and younger generation to showcase their talent through different programmes.
“The only consideration is how you communicate with the audience. Since Akashavani is an audio medium, a single word and its pronunciation is very important. ,” Perla explained.
