Six men dress up as girls, stuff their tops with tennis balls (and oranges) and steal them from each other in the climax of Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya. Enough said.
The entire film is an excuse to arrive at this ridiculously contrived comedy of errors that will either put you off the film or make you want to see it. If you happen to belong to the latter and are not part of the film’s cast, crew or their immediate family, you might want to read further.
Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya starts off with a celebration of Hindi film clichés, almost like the poor man’s Andaaz Apna Apna that paid tribute to one of the oldest plots in Bollywood: two losers try to get rich overnight through inheritance by hook or crook. But just as you are warming up to Shaan and Mika as actors, the film disintegrates and deteriorates to becoming the poor man’s Humshakals . And yet, strangely ends up being a lot more entertaining than the Sajid Khan film…
While the girl just can’t act, the rest of the ensemble cast manages to relieve you of quite a bit of the pain involved in sitting through this film that tries really hard to be funny, even if it means throwing in fart jokes when the actors don’t know what to do.
Shaan is quite a natural while Mika manages with his limited set of expressions to breeze through this largely forgettable film. But for the catchy songs (most of them feature women in bikini tops) sung by the two talented leads, Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya has absolutely no other redeeming factor.
This is the kind of fare people may find funny only on TV — sitting at a bar, late at night.
