Global steelmaker ArcelorMittal's Romanian unit ArcelorMittal Galati has announced that it aims to increase production by 15 percent in 2015, following major technical upgrades at its blast furnace No. 5 and at the steel melting shop, and following the successful ramp-up of the equipment.

At the blast furnace No. 5, the works, part of the second phase of the modernization launched three years ago, included the complete changing of the charging system. The results recorded in the months after the commissioning of the investments and the ramp-up period show the effects of the works: in August, the blast furnace No. 5 delivered its biggest monthly output of the last 34 years. These investments are in line with ArcelorMittal Europe's strategy in which Galati plays a key role.

ArcelorMittal Galati said that the current technical conditions are creating the framework for targeting an increase in production in 2015, from 1.6 million mt to more than 2 million mt.
