The 11th congress of the Asia Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) began here on Thursday. Organised by the Indian Thyroid Society, this is the first time that the international congress is being held in the country.
Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor of Amrita Viswa Vidya Peetham, inaugurated the meeting. Dr. Yoshihura Murata from Japan, president of AOTA, spoke about the importance of the congress in the context of addressing various thyroid diseases in the different countries of the Asia Oceania region. He also emphasised on India’s role both in the clinical and research areas in the field. About 150 international delegates from Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Nepal, in addition to over 500 delegates from different parts of the country are participating in the congress.
