Ratchanok beaten in quarter-finals to complete disappointing tournament for Thai shuttlers

On the last day of weightlifting, Chitchanok lifted 131kg in snatch and 161kg in clean and jerk for 292kg.

China's Zhou Lulu was in a class of her own, hoisting 142kg in snatch and new world record 192kg in clean and jerk for 334kg to comfortably won gold.

Kazakhstan's Mariya Grabovetskaya was second (141-161-302).

Praeonapa Khenjantuek, the other Thai athlete in the category, finished fifth (122-160-282).

Chitchanok said: "I am very happy to win bronze. I am not disappointed to finish third."

Overall, Thailand won three bronze medals in weightlifting at the Incheon Games.

In badminton, Thailand were empty-handed in Incheon as their campaign ended in embarrassing fashion.

No Thais reached the semi-finals after yesterday's quarter-finals.

With 20 players, Thailand, who targeted one gold medal, had only two spots in the quarter-finals.

In the women's singles, 2013 world champion Ratchanok Intanon lost to South Korea's Bae Jeonu.

In the women's doubles, Duanganong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul were beaten on Thursday.

World No.5 Ratchanok lost 4-21, 21-18, 8-21 to No.5 Bae who is now 3-1 in their head-to-head record.

Tearful Ratchanok said she felt sorry for disappointed Thai fans.

"I am sorry that I could not win a medal,'' said Ratchanok, who has been less than convincing after winning the world title.

She will next play in the Superseries events in Denmark and France in an attempt to reach the Superseries Finals.

In the second round of the mixed doubles yesterday, fifth seeds Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam lost 21-19, 21-12 to Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing of Taiwan.

Maneepong Jongjit and Sapsiree Taerattanachai lost to Shin Baekcheol and Chang Yena of South Korea 21-16, 11-21, 18-21.

"I did not play well and our serve was poor,'' said Maneepong.

Thailand won one silver and one bronze in badminton at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
