MANSA: Even after 36 hours, Mansa police are clueless about the identity and whereabouts of 12 youths, who brutally killed a woman and left three members of her family seriously injured by smashing theirs heads with baseball bats. The incident, which sent a panic wave across the town, occurred on Wednesday night, when 12 assailants entered house of Gurcharan Singh, who is employed as an instructor at the industrial training institute (ITI), Budhlada.
"We have questioned several persons. However, we are still clueless about the identity of the accused. Investigations are going on," said Mansa deputy superintendent of police, Rupinder Bhardwaj. The assailants, who entered the house through the terrace by using a ladder, had first injured the head of family Gurcharan by hitting his head with the slugger and then attacked other members.
The attackers caught all victims unawares as Gurucharan and his wife were sleeping on the first floor. Families of both his sons — Harpreet Singh and Gurjit Singh — were in separate rooms at the ground floor.
Veerpal Kaur, wife of Gurjit, was the last target of assailants, who attacked her with sharp-edged weapons and sluggers, leaving her dead.
