JAIPUR: At a time when the Gujjar Reservation Committee is all set to re-launch its agitation for 5% quota, another group of the community Gujjar Reservation Co-ordination Committee has opposed the call for agitation.
The co-ordination committee's meeting is seen as an attempt to pacify the revolting group. The Gujjar Reservation Committee, under the leadership of Retd Col Kirori Singh Bainsla, has announced to hold a maha panchayat of the community at Ajit Khera Katara Ajij village near Hindaun in Karauli district on Sunday.
Bainsla and his team are reportedly gearing up for yet another long fight, which the state government is keen to avoid.
On Friday, leaders of the Gujjar Reservation Co-ordination Committee and the Rajasthan Dev Sena Dal, another Gujjar organisation, met in Jaipur and announced to become the 'bridge' between the state government and the agitating group. The committee members, most of whom are associated with BJP, claimed that the agitation would only worsen the situation for the community, which should better prepare the issue for a legal battle.
Condemning the call for yet another agitation, leaders of the Gujjar Reservation Co-ordination Committee said this was the time for a dialogue. "Agitations are held for getting mass support and the community has already gone through all that. We have the public support, have already been promised 5% reservation under Special Backward Classes and now there is a need only for a better dialogue with the government,'' said Jawahar Singh Bedam, spokesperson of the committee.
The committee placed its full faith in the state government. "The state government allotted Rs 500 crore for the Devnaraya Board and has assured for proper representation on behalf of the community in courts. We too would be seeking legal advice on how can the community get the remaining 5% reservation and will meet the state government to discuss this in first week of October,'' said Mahendra Singh Khedla, co-convener of the committee.
