Merged mandals grapple with ‘administrative’ issues

The officials of the four mandals of Khammam district in Telangana that have been merged with East Godavari district have complained to Collector Neetu Prasad that the Telangana authorities had stopped mobile services, video conference system and Mee-seva services from the day of the Gazette notification of the merger.

The officials of Chinturu, Nellipaka, V.R. Puram and Koonavaram mandals met Ms. Prasad on Thursday and explained about the problems being faced by the tribals and non-tribal populations in the mandals. Stressing the need for establishing Aadhaar enrolment centres immediately, they appealed for restoration of web, e-seva and EDPS services immediately.

Listing out problems pertaining to electricity and improper functioning cellphone towers, they urged for supply of PCs and video conference equipment. They expressed concern that there were large number of vacancies of medical officers and staff in the mandals. All the divisional level officers took part in this review meeting attended by Collector Ms. Neetu Prasad, Joint Collector R. Mutyala Raju and ITDA Project Officer Gandham Chandrudu. Responding to the pleas of the officials, the Collector assured that steps would be taken to set up Aadhaar enrolment centres and directed them to change the name boards of their respective offices including district and State. She also promised that guidelines on pension survey would be released soon and steps to fill up five doctors would be taken soon. She assured that steps would be taken to set up mandal centre in Nellipaka and solve the problems with Forest Department.

She said fire services offices would be set up in all four mandals and steps would be taken to enhance bus services to merged mandals from the district headquarters. A special officer would be appointed for four mandals and steps would be taken to set up four cell towers in these mandals. Essential commodities would be supplied to tribal welfare residential schools and gurukuls through the GCC.

In addition, one excise police station and one check post would be set up in four mandals, she said, adding that a Road transport Officer would be appointed for these mandals and the office would be proposed at Chinturu.
