JAMMU, Sept 25: Classical Dance Solo and Creative Dance Solo events were organized on ninth day of “Display Your Talent” 2014-15 by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, here.
In Classical Dance Solo Competition, Monisha Mehra and Roopali Arora both from the Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, adjudged as first and second respectively whereas Raksha Godiya from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu, bagged the third prize. The Certificate of Merit was awarded to Heena Devi from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu.
The participants presented “Guru Vandana”, “Ganesh Vandana”, “Sarswati Vandana”, “Thumri”, etc. with their presentations while each “Tore”, “Tukde”, “Gat-bhav” & “Tatkar” etc. received applause from the audience.
It needs to be mentioned here that Kathak, Kathakkali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam & Odissi etc are the various schools of Classical Dances but “Kathak” is the most popular dance in the Northern part of the country as such all the participants performed Kathak Dance. The beats of Tabla, and notes of Harmonium echoed in the auditorium. Each participant was given a maximum time of 15 minutes including time for preparation and exit etc.
Anuradha Seth Kohli, Arti Mehta and V.N. Kolhi, were the judges for the Classical Dance Solo event.
In Creative Dance Solo Competition, again the high-quality performances presented by the students of Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Sipaj Jain and Nishtha Mahajan, fetched the First and Second prize, respectively whereas Kanika Sharma from Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, bagged the Third prize.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Komal Rajput from GGM Science College, Jammu, Pooja Raj and Saloni Verma from Govt. College for Women, Parade, Jammu.
The other themes of dances were “Global Warming”, “Let me Dance” “Says No to Drugs “, “Nari Shakti”, “Women Empowerment”, “Female Foeticide and ” Save Environment” etc.
Dr. Seema Rohmetra and Dr. Madhulika Bhagat, were the Teacher Incharges for the both events and apprised the participants about the Rules and Regulations of their respective event.
The programme was compeered by Aenny Mattoo and Kaveri Duggal whereas Yashpal acted as the time keeper.
Randhir Kumar, Rakesh Konna and Poonam Honda were the adjudicators for the Creative Dance Solo Competition.
Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare and Prof. Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, distributed the certificates amongst the participants.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Ab Rashid Manhas and Dr Yudhbir Singh, Assistant Deans (SW), Faculty Members, Teacher Incharges from various Affiliated Colleges, members Campus Cultural Committee, Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer, Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor and Rahul Sharma, Secretary, Students Cultural Council.
