French-born, London-based designer Roland Mouret, who gained international attention in August with the release of his cheap chic collection of strappy sheaths for chain retailer Banana Republic, made a sales pitch at his show at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday morning. It was a sales pitch for his namesake New York store, his first in the U.S., opening Nov. 14 at 952 Madison Ave.

In the show notes, he went so far as to write that the collection was dedicated to 952 Madison. “I feel I am at the point where I am closest with my customer.”

Now that Mouret and his customer can meet for lunch at San Ambroeus, she will have lots to wear. Because these were clothes that will be at home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and anyplace else in the world where ladies, albeit younger ladies, lunch.

The look: Modern femme in an ice cream-colored palette.

Key pieces: Color-blocked blouses and trousers with contrasting collars and architectural details. Dresses with asymmetric hems, zip-fronts and mesh insets lending a sporty edge. Circle skirts and sleeveless tops with bold, hibiscus-flower embroideries, and playsuits with blooming lily embroideries.

The verdict: Body-conscious like you’d expect for Mouret, but with a welcome ease of movement and sportiness that was oh-so American.
