Desi Kattey: A story of friendship and patriotism

With India’s international success in other sports besides cricket, filmmaker Anand Kumar believes it’s the right time for a film like Desi Kattey, which revolves around the sport of shooting.
Starring Suniel Shetty, Jay Bhanushali and Akhil Kapur, the film narrates the story of Giani and Pali, two orphans who grow up making country-made pistols and aspire to be sharpshooters. While one becomes a gangster, the other, under the mentorship of Major Rathore (Suniel), becomes an ace shooter, representing India at Olympics.About the lead cast, Anand says, “What I like about Jay and Akhil is that their acting is raw and unadulterated. And I couldn’t have imagined anyone else but Suniel Anna to essay Major Rathore. I’ve always wanted to work with him.” Since the female leads are also significant in the course of the story, he cast Sasha Agha and Tia Bajpai opposite Jay and Akhil.

Appreciating Kailash Kher’s soundtrack and lyrics, Anand calls the music the USP of the film. The filmmaker feels that although the movie mainly focuses on the friendship between the two male leads, it also has undercurrents of romance, patriotism and the victory of good over evil. He adds, “Every person who understands deep friendship, can relate to this story. More importantly, it also creates awareness about sports.”
