Jamie Burnett: Probe over match involving snooker player

Snooker's governing body is investigating a match involving Scotsman Jamie Burnett and Ireland's John Sutton over "unusual betting".

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association's (WPBSA) integrity unit was alerted over bets placed on Burnett's 6-0 win at the International Championships qualifiers on Wednesday.

Burnett's match against fellow Scot Stephen Maguire in 2008 was investigated over unusual betting patterns., external No charges were brought against him.

Snooker's governing body will now look into the issue involving Burnett's victory over Sutton in Barnsley.

"The WPBSA Integrity Unit undertook specific measures both to monitor the match live and to examine the circumstances surrounding it," a statement on the WPBSA website, external read.

"Together with the Sports Betting Intelligence Unit at the Gambling Commission, we are analysing the available information on this match to determine what action is appropriate.

"With their partners, the International Centre for Sport Security, the WPBSA Integrity Unit have information-sharing agreements with the betting industry and closely monitor worldwide betting on all competitive snooker."
