The late Samih al Qasem may have passed away on August 19, 2014, but the patriotic poet is still alive in the hearts and minds of his loyal readers.

On Saturday 20 Sep, Al Qasim was honored in an event in the Jordanian capital Amman.

The event was buzzing with cultured members of the Jordanian community, in addition to a special attendance by Duke Mamdouh Bisharat.

Unlike most events of this kind, Samih's enjoyed a diverse mix of performances including opera singing, classical music and poetry reading.

The stage was adorned in a cosy setting with white flowers and candles that gave off a warm ambiance.

The evening kicked off with a Quranic reading, followed by a tear-jerking video of the deceaced's mother and family singing in sadness by his coffin.

It was then 10-year-old Thekra who stunned the audience with a passionate and confident reading of one of Qasim's famous national poems.

The stage then lit up with a very unexpected, original and creative dance by a Turkish whirling dancer, whose costume was fitted with beautiful coloued ights that lit up as he spun around for over five minutes.

But the highlight of the evening was the finale performance by Jordanian soprano Zeina Barhoum, who filled the stage with her beautiful and powerful operatic voice with renditions of thoughtfully-picked Italian and Arabic songs that related to Samih and his message.

Overall, it was a heartwarming evening that left everyone happy and remembering why Qasim was the great poet that he was.
