PATNA: Fresh spells of rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday re-inundated several areas of the city, hampering and negating the efforts of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to drain out water from the waterlogged city streets and localities. According to local meteorological officials, a total of 20.9mm of rainfall was recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Some of the waterlogged areas included low-lying area on either side of the New Bypass Road, several internal lanes of east and west Lohanipur, Patliputra industrial area, Birla Mandir road, Sabzibagh, Dariyapur, Kadamkuan near Shiv temple, Jakkanpur near Goriamath and S K Nagar.
“Water was receding from our area with the help of pumps, but the fresh showers again flooded the area,” a west Lohanipur resident said.
A resident of Kalyaninagar in Anisabad, suffering from typhoid rued that neither he was able to go and see a doctor nor any doctor was able to visit him due to waterlogging. “A pathologist who came to collect my blood a few days ago also fell from his bike and refused to come again,” he said. The Patnaite who resides in ward number 11 of the PMC said he had lodged a complaint with the civic body’s executive officer on Sunday but to no avail.
The shopkeepers at Khetan, Hathwa and Lalji market areas and Thakurbari road sat glum faced at their counters as few customers took pains to shop braving the waterlogging. With the festive season at hand, the shopkeepers rued this is one time when they expect brisk business, but people are not venturing to these areas because of the flooding.
A resident of Kankarbagh’s Ashok Nagar road number 8 said the water level had not receded even by an inch. “All nearby areas such as Changar are also waterlogged and we are only praying that there is no more rain, so that water is drained out,” he said.
