Bag with Rs 4 lakh lifted, kept back
AURANGABAD: It is not often that we hear of stolen goods being returned. That is exactly what happened when a bag containing over Rs 4 lakh that was allegedly stolen ten days ago from Sadat Masjid near Roshan Gate area, much to the surprise of the residents and the police today re-appeared at the same spot. The Jinsi police, who had been struggling for clues in the case, breathed a sigh of relief.
Irfan Motiwala, a trader by profession, on September 15 had been to Sadat Masjid in Roshan Gate area for Maghrib prayers (prayers offered at sunset). While he was busy with prayers, unidentified suspects allegedly lifted his bag containing Rs 4.20 lakh.
Motiwala approached the Jinsi police and lodged a complaint and since then the police was struggling for clues in the case.
On Wednesday afternoon, the muezzin of the mosque who was cleaning the first floor, spotted an unclaimed bag, following which he informed the police about it and soon police teams and the BDS squads reached the spot.
On scanning it, the police found that it contained cash and it was seized thereafter. Motiwala was informed, who identified the bag to be his. Police later seized the bag and has asked the complainant to get it released from the court after submitting sufficient documentary evidence.
Aurangabad commissioner of police Rajender Singh said, “The suspect probably had a change of heart and returned the bag almost 10 days after lifting it.”
A police official privy to the investigations said that thefts committed at religious places are a big challenge for the police, as people try to give it a communal colour.
