7-yr-old run over by MCD dumper, driver on the run

“Both were rushed to hospital. Sharma, who was critically injured, was admitted while Ishani was declared brought dead. An FIR has been registered against the driver who is absconding,” the officer said. Police said Sharma and Ishani were flung off the two-wheeler due to the impact.

“Because Roop Chand was wearing a helmet and he fell a long way from the bike, he did not sustain fatal injuries. However, Ishani came under the wheel of the dumper and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding,” a senior police officer said.

After the incident, residents rushed the two to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. The driver, meanwhile, abandoned his vehicle and fled. The dumper has been impounded by police. An FIR under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (a) (death caused due to negligence) was registered. A search is on for the driver, police said. Ishani was a student of Class I. She is survived by her parents and grandparents.
