Swamy to move SC against defamation cases by Jaya

The boats belonged to powerful leaders like DMK’s TR Baalu and Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala.”

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy will move the Supreme Court against defamation cases filed against him filed by Tamil Nadu Chief J Jayalalithaa over his comments on Twitter.

Over the past two weeks, Jayalalithaa and the state government have filed five cases against Swamy for allegedly ridiculing the Chief Minister in his Twitter posts. A Chennai court had recently summoned the BJP leader to appear before it on October 30 in connection with two of the five cases against him.

“I have decided to approach the Supreme Court against this abuse of power. One of her secretaries who is approving these cases will also be made accountable for this. The magistrate who is entertaining these cases needs to apply his mind. I am waiting for the summons to be served,” he told The Indian Express. “Two more defamation cases. Will go to SC but waiting for the summons to be served. Then the Sanction order basis of that dumb bureaucrat (sic),” he had tweeted Tuesday.

Jayalalithaa had sued Swamy after he said, “Since there were no requests from the owners of the boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy, I requested only for the release of the fishermen. The boats belonged to powerful leaders like DMK’s TR Baalu and Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala.”
