Drugs like Fluvir and Tamiflu used to treat swine flu are not available in any of the medical stores

Hyderabad: Drugs like Fluvir and Tamiflu used to treat swine flu are not available in any of the medical stores in the city.

Ayesha who has been diagnosed with swine flu is admitted at Aware Global Hospitals and her family has been running around searching for the medicine but none of the medical stores have it.

Ayesha is now on ventilator. She had delivered a baby but the child died in two days. Mohammed R. Parvez, her husband, who came down from Dubai says, “The doctors gave us the prescription and have asked us to get the medicine from outside as it is not available with the hospital. Since morning I have been to all the well known pharmacy stores but no one has it. Hetero Pharmacy was the official distributor but the stock is not there since two months. They say that the drug has been phased out and said they would check if anyone has stock.”

The family also checked with government hospitals in vain. Gandhi Hospital which is the nodal centre for notifying and treating the disease does not have the drug since August 2014.

Dr Altaf Naseem, a senior doctor said, “There was a fear that the drug will be misused by people hence it was dispensed only on prescription. Misuse of the drug can hit its potency.”
