ROME – The 13th edition of Locarno’s Open Doors co-production mart, dedicated to cinematographies in areas where making movies is especially tough, will focus on Africa’s Maghreb region, comprising Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia.

Choice of this region comes after Open Doors last year was dedicated to sub-saharan Africa. It marks the second time for Maghreb, following a previous focus on the area in 2005.

The Open Doors lab, which will run from August 8-11, 2015, will pick a dozen projects from Maghreb and help them connect with potential co-production partners, especially European producers.

The four-day affair will also dish out awards including the Open Doors Grant, worth $50,000, and two prizes offered by Gaul’s Cnc and Arte.

As with previous Open Doors editions dedicated to Africa, expert Alex Moussa Sawadogo, director of Berlin’s Afrikamera fest, will act as a consultant.

The 68th Locarno film fest will run in the lakeside town located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland August 5-15, 2015.
