I've had to dilute my accent to be understood in Hollywood - Jack Reynor

The Wicklow actor told of how he had to do a double-take recently when he found himself standing on top of a mountain in full armour alongside Oscar-nominated Kerry star Michael Fassbender.

The 22-year-old Transformers star told FM104 that his extraordinary rise to fame is not lost on him.

"It's been fairly wild. The last year had been a bit of an exponential trajectory for me but it's brilliant. I am living the dream at the moment.

"I have had a few moments. I've stood on top of a mountain in Newcastle looking at Hadrian's Wall with Michael Fassbender beside me, the two of us in armour and I've stood there going: 'Jesus Christ, this is mental I was only doing my Leaving Cert four years ago'."

The in-demand actor said he has had to learn to naturally dilute his strong Wicklow accent to be understood in Hollywood.

"In America, you have to try and make yourself a bit more accessible for people because they just don't understand you when you speak with your regular accent," he said.

He said he always feels like he is flying the flag for Ireland while working in Tinseltown.

"In general, people are pretty supportive, especially at home in Ireland. Like, all my mates and my family and all are very supportive of me," he said.

Meanwhile, Ireland's hottest young actor also teased about his new role in John Carney's film Sing Street, which is being shot around the capital.

"I'm working on a couple of things alright. I might be working with John Carney and I might be having a lot of craic doing it," he said.

Sing Street, which is set in 1980s Dublin, centres on a troubled 14-year-old boy called Cosmo who forms a band with his schoolmates.

Love/Hate actor Aidan Gillen and Tudors actress Maria Doyle Kennedy (pictured) are also pencilled in for starring roles.

And Reynor has just wrapped up filming on the Jungle Book, which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett.

He is cast in the role of Brother Wolf in the film which centres of the tale of orphan Mowgli.
