The woman was buried neck-deep in mud to cure her in UP's Sukhdapur village.

Villagers of Sukhdapur in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district admitted a 34-year-old woman to a district hospital on Tuesday, but not before the electric shock victim remained buried neck deep for 72 hours as per a local practice to treat burns.

Ram Kali Prajapati, 34, was put in a pit and covered with a heap of mud on September 21 after she received an electric shock on accidentally coming in touch with a highvoltage wire. "She fell unconscious when the wire fell on her on Sunday morning. She regained consciousness in the evening. We noticed rashes on her body when we pulled her out on Tuesday morning. So, we decided to admit her to hospital," Jai Ram Rathore, a villager, told Mail Today over the phone.

"We have treated many people and animals by this method. It is not new for us. We admitted her to hospital after saving her life," the woman's husband Deen Dayal Prajapati said. "Previously, we had treated a child using the same method. There are some marks of electric burn on the child's body. But he is alright now. Mud is the only treatment for electric shock victim. The creams that doctors apply on burns have the same medicinal properties," he added.

However, a villager said the woman was pulled out from earth at 6 am on Tuesday when they came to know that the police had got the news from local media and was about to reach there. "We feared police action and took her to hospital," the villager said. Superintendent of Police Sonia Singh told reporters that it was a stray incident and the victim has been taken to a hospital. "We had heard about the incident and sent a police team. Currently, she is receiving treatment at the district hospital," the SP said.
