Vince Vaughn joins Colin Farrell in ‘True Detective’

Season 2 of “True Detective” is finally starting to take shape.

Days after Colin Farrell confirmed his involvement, HBO announced Tuesday that Vince Vaughn will join him in the cast of the anthology series.

The second season — which will again be written by series creator Nic Pizzolato — will follow three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Vaughn (“Wedding Crashers”) has been cast in the role of the criminal, Frank Semyon, who is in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.

Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Additional casting for “True Detective” is to be announced, with the eight-episode season set to begin production in California later this fall.

HBO also announced that Justin Lin (of the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise) will direct the first two episodes.
