MOSCOW, September 23 (RAPSI, Vladimir Yaduta) - The European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) has registered three applications filed at different times by former prime minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi. The court has not arrived at any decisions yet, according to the court’s statement released on Tuesday.

The first application was registered by the Strasbourg court on October 7, 2013, and concerns the so-called Severino law, enforced in late 2012. The law prohibits individuals sentenced to two or more years in prison from running for or serving in government positions. The law was the reason for Berlusconi losing his seat in the Italian parliament in November 2013.

The second application was registered on April 15, 2014. The Italian politician complains about being charged with alleged tax evasion and creating shadow funds. As a result of the charges, Berlusconi was sentenced to four years in prison in August 2013. Later, due to the specifics of the Italian laws, the sentence was replaced with 12 months of community service.

Finally, the third application, filed on April 10, 2014, concerns the purchase of the Mondadori publishing company by Berlusconi’s family holding Fininvest. The Italian court found that the deal involved fraud and imposed a fine of 750 million euros on the holding. The politician insisted that the order be cancelled, but the court only reduced the amount to 540.7 million euros.

Currently, there are no decisions on these applications, including whether the Strasbourg court will hear the merits of the alleged violations, the ECHR said in a statement published due to the increased attention from the Italian media.
