‘Dancing With the Stars’: My Jam Monday Night [Recap/Review]

Dancing With the Stars

Dancing With the Stars
Tonight on Dancing With the Stars it is My Jam Monday. Olympian Lolo Jones and her pro dance partner, Keo (Keoikantse Motsepe), were the first couple to get eliminated last Tuesday during the first Results Night of the season. Each celebrity and his or her pro dance partner will dance one unlearned dance,to the songs of their choice and hope that the four judges will award them with high enough scores so they are not the next one to be eliminated tomorrow night during the second Results Night. Also tonight, Sia performed the song Chandelier and Nico & Vinz sang Am I Wrong.

Randy Couture and Karina Smirnoff were the first couple to dance tonight on Dancing With the Stars. They performed the Cha Cha Cha to Satisfaction by Otis Redding. Randy Couture promised he would “bring it,” this Monday night and he definitely did just that.

Bruno gave them a 7 and said Randy needed “to tidy up the edges.”

Julianne Hough said that “it was a fun way to start the night” and gave Randy and Karina a score of 7.

Len said that the dance Randy and Karina did put him into a “good mood.” He was not impressed with Randy’s footwork, but he appreciated that he came out and gave it his all.

Carrie Ann said, outright, that she was “disappointed” by the performance, though she still gave Randy and Karina a 7, for a total score of 28/40 points.

The second couple to perform on Dancing With the Stars was Janel Parrish and her pro dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. They did an amazing Foxtrot to Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. The audience loved it, but will the four judges feel the same way?

Bruno, for one, really enjoyed the performance, saying lasciviously that Janel looked “hot to trot.”
He gave them a score of 9.

Julianne Hough stated that, though it was not a “traditional Foxtrot,” she still “loved it.” She awarded them a score of 8.

Len also liked the performance and gave them a score of 8.

Carrie Ann, like Bruno, gave the couple a score of 9, saying she really liked Janel’s “versatility” as a dancer. That made a combined total of 34/40 points for Janel and Val.

The third celebrity to perform on Dancing With the Stars was Lea Thompson. Her pro dance partner was one of the new dancers to the show, Artem Chigvintsev. The couple danced a Jive dance to Land of 1000 Dances by the legendary Wilson Pickett.

Though Lea said that Jive was an unfamiliar dance to her, she did not like it at all that they were in danger of being eliminated last week, so she and Artem did their best to make sure that would not be the case this week.

They were FANTASTIC and with the performance tonight, there will be no repeat of last week. Three of the judges gave Lea and Artem 9s! Only Len gave the pair an 8. Bruno said Lea was “fantastic,” and Julianne Hough said watching the dance had given her “chill” and she called Lea “a hot momma.”

According to Carrie Ann, the ladies “are killing it tonight.” Len said he was worried about the Jive, but still said it was “terrific.” Go figure… Lea and Artem’s overall score was 35/40 points.

The fourth couple of the evening on Dancing With the Stars was race car driver Michael Waltrip and his pro dance partner, Emma Slater. They did fairly well last week. This week they danced a Samba to Girls In Bikinis by Lee Brice. Waltrip semi-joked that he would like to see Slater in a bikini. He did not do very well, though he gave it a try.

Bruno gave Waltrip and Emma Slater a score of 6, saying that the race car driver was probably envied by all the men in America who were watching because he got to dance with Slater.

Julianne Hough also gave Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater a score of 6, as did the other two judges, Len and Carrie Ann, for a total of just 24/40 possible points. That score places them in the bottom at the moment in this episode of Dancing With the Stars.

Dancing fifth tonight were talk show host Travis Smiley and his pro dance partner, Sharna Burgess. They danced a Cha Cha Cha to the group Earth, Wind and Fire’s big hit, Boogie Wonderland. Tavis was not at his best tonight, as he is in the middle of a book tour and he has been freaked out at rehearsals that he did not really have the time to practice the dance like he would have otherwise done.

Bruno said that Tavis “sold” the dance but added that he needed to be “lighter on his feet.” Bruno gave the couple a 7.

Julianne Hough, who also thought that Tavis and Sharna did well under the circumstances, added her 7 to the score. The other two judges, Len and Carrie Ann, gave them 7s, also. The total for Tavis and Sharna was 28/40, which should be enough to carry them through another week, at least.

That brought Dancing with the Stars to the sixth couple of the evening, Alfonso Ribeiro from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and his pro dance partner, Witney Carson. Alfonso and Witney danced the Samba to Getting’ Jiggy Wit It by Will Smith. Though Alfonso had a few difficulties during rehearsals, he and Witney were terrific tonight during the show.

The four judges each gave the couple 8s, making for an overall total of 32/40 points. They did not get the highest score tonight, like they did last week, but it is more than high enough to keep them safe this week. Next Monday, they will have to dance a Ballroom Dance.

The seventh dancers on Dancing With the Stars were Bethany Mota and her pro dance partner, Derek Hough. They danced a Foxtrot to the late summer hit All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor. Bethany had been in good spirits because Taylor Swift had tweeted them about how well they did last week, but she hurt her ankle and is worried that she and Derek might not do well tonight.

However, despite Bethany’s injury, they did very well tonight. Three of the judges gave Bethany and Derek scores of 8s, while Len gave them a 9. That made their overall total 33/40 points, not too shabby at all!

The eighth couple of the evening on Dancing With the Stars was fashion designer Betsey Johnson and her pro dance partner Tony Dovolani. She had a mishap with a feathered boa last week and wants to prove that was a fluke and she can dance much better than her first performance. They danced a Foxtrot to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper.

The four judges gave Betsey and Tony straight 7s. Carrie Ann even called her “Queen Betsey,” praising how ell she had danced compared to last week. Their overall score was 28/40 total possible points, which is sure to keep them alive during tomorrow’s Results Night.

The ninth couple tonight was Antonio Sabato Jr. and Cheryl Burke. They danced a Rumba to Adorn by Miguel. Cheryl mentioned that the Rumba was one of her favorite dances. Antonio had said he was a little bit worried because the dance was so “sensual,” but they both did a great job. Julianne, Bruno and Carrie Ann awarded the couple scores of 8s. Len gave them a 7 and told Antonio that he should not “over analyze” the dances but just have fun with them and enjoy them.

The tenth couple on Dancing With the Stars were fan favorite, Tommy Chong, and Peta Murgatroyd, his pro dance partner. They danced a Salsa to the classic hit Higher by Gloria Estefan. Tommy Chong, dancing bare-chested, and Peta proved to be just as entertaining as they were last week, and got the audience totally into their performance. The judges awarded them scores of straight 7s, for a respectable overall total of 28/40 points.

Jonathan Bennett and his pro dance partner, Allison Holker, were the 11th couple to perform on Dancing With the Stars. They danced the Cha Cha Cha to Sing by Ed Sheeran. It was yet another great performance tonight, though Jonathan looked a bit too serious at times during the dance.

Bruno gave them an 8, but he told them that some of the elements of the dance appeared to be “rushed.”

Julianne also gave the couple an 8, telling them they have a lot of potential to grow during the rest of this season.

The other two judges, Carrie Ann and Len, gave Jonathan and Alison scores of 7, making a grand total tonight of 30/40 points.

The 12th and last couple to perform tonight on Dancing With the Stars was Duck Dynasty‘s Sadie Robertson and her pro dance partner, Mark Ballas. They danced a Jazz dance to She’s Country by Jason Aldean. To Mark, it was a whole new experience attempting to choreograph a jazz routine to a country song. They both seemed to have a great and fun time with dance and really had the audience into their fantastic performance.

Three of the judges gave them scores of 8s. Len, though, just gave them a 7, saying that for him, jazz and country music “didn’t gel.” Sadie and Mark earned a score of 31/40 total points. They are terrific together, and just might go all the way this season and win the Mirror Ball Trophy.

Dancing With the Stars tonight is just in its second week, but the competition is getting fierce already. Almost every couple either pretty much maintained how well they did last week or have gotten higher overall scores this week. Determining who gets eliminated during tomorrow’s Results Show might be difficult, though the couple with the lowest score tonight was Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater with a score of 24/40 points, which definitely places them in danger of being eliminated. Still, two other couples tied with 28/40, namely Randy Couture and his pro dance partner, Karina Smirnoff; and, Tavis Smiley and his pro dance partner, Sharna Burgess. These two couples also risk being eliminated on Tuesday.
