n a major upset in Division I of the Apple Coal JCA League 2014-2015 season, India XI brought down defending champions WISCI, while Indorama and Rebels registered routine wins.

It may be too early to say if the aura of invincibility associated with WISCI has started to fade or whether September is simply the month where WISCI stumbles.

It happened on Sept. 29 last year and it happened again this weekend. WPP India XI brought down the high-flying WISCI by six wickets with more than seven overs to spare.

WISCI'€™s score of 237 runs was by no means a push over, but a superb unbeaten 118 runs by Pallav Malhotra ensured his team did it without sweating too much.

India XI'€™s run chase started at blistering pace with WISCI'€™s bowlers being thrashed for 99 runs in overs one to 12 '€” a phenomenon rarely heard of.

Rahul Pagad with 42 runs and Naidu with 31 rallied around Pallav to reach the victory target in the 28th over. Earlier, veteran Wilfred Shultz had rediscovered form and youth with a gritty unbeaten 54 runs to take WISCI from 152/5 in 24 overs to a decent 237/8 in 35 overs. Viraj Bhammar made 63 runs. Pallav, Gaurav and Kishore took two wickets each. Pallav was the man of the match for carrying his bat.

In a close game at Cibubur, Indorama defeated last year'€™s Division II finalist Jakarta Barbarians by two wickets. Indorama reached the victory target of 181 runs in the penultimate over. Kaushik made 43 runs while ever-green Srikkanth made 21.

Earlier, electing to bat first, Barbarian'€™s so-called '€œMr. Dependable'€, Scott Masson, lifted the score from 111/5 in 24 overs to a respectable 180/9 in 35 overs. Masson remained unbeaten on 44 runs and also claimed three wickets.

Meanwhile, Fez Rebels rediscovered winning ways by beating Senayan Tigers by 91 runs. Lead by Marten Eddy'€™s 70 and Debmalaya'€™s 40 runs, the Rebels ended with 231/7 in 35 overs. Desandri took three wickets. Tigers were all out for 141 runs. Gema Fajar scored 44. Warwick took three and Debmalaya took two wickets.

WISCI, Jakarta Barbarians and Indorama lead Division I, while Fez Rebels, Metro Indians and TKCC lead Division II.
