Castleford Tigers playmaker Liam Finn insists Daryl Powell's men must regain their form if they are to stand any chance of toppling Warrington Wolves on Thursday.

The Tigers missed the chance to enjoy a bye week after going down 41-0 to St Helens in the first round of the Super League playoffs at Langtree Park on Friday.

Castleford has yet to find their best form since reaching the Tetley’s Challenge Cup final last month and have now suffered two heavy defeats after ending the regular season with a 28-6 loss to Catalan.

Powell’s men can take heart from the fact they drubbed Warrington 40-6 on home soil back in April, although the playoffs are all about form and Finn knows they need to up their game against the Wolves.

“The top teams find a way to come good at this time of year and we need to do that pretty quickly,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

Improvement needed

“We must take a leaf out of their book if we want to progress our season this week. The simple fact of the matter is there has to be a marked improvement.

“We need to find something for Thursday to deliver a good performance and we’ve spoken about not wanting to ruin a good season and have a lasting memory of the way we finish like this (Saints defeat). As a team we don’t deserve that.

“The fans certainly don’t. We feel we’ve produced an entertaining style this year and we want to finish with them thinking about us in that manner.

“We were in the game for the first half at Saints and did a lot of things right. But then we pushed the pass and made a couple of wrong choices to go in 13-0 down.

“The last 30 minutes, though, were just not up to standard at all. We dropped off completely and it was nowhere near good enough.”
