Every year there are dozens of new faces joining the industry. While a handful of them work and get noticed, a major chunk of them are ignored and forgotten. It’s the right time we take a look at the debutants who entered the showbiz in 2014.
Fawad Khan
Debut film: Khoobsurat
Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan has made our girls go weak in their knees. With Khoobsurat he proves to be someone to watch out for! And if you’ve watched his Pakistani daily soap Zindagi Gulzar Hai you’ll know what we’re talking about.
Kriti Sanon
Debut film: Heropanti
This dainty outsider is giving our B-town divas sleepless nights. Kriti Sanon is touted to be the next big thing. She’s said to have replaced Kareena Kapoor Khan in Singh Is Bling opposite Akshay Kumar and is also doing a film with Shahid Kapoor. Looks like her debut in Heropanti has hit the bull’s eye and we’re seeing a star in making.
Tiger Shroff
Debut film: Heropanti
Tiger Shroff was the surprise of the year. He can dance, beat up goons and jump off buildings like Spiderman (sans superpowers). He has a physique that can give the fitness freaks of our industry a run for their money. This star kid’s debut film shows he has a long way to go.
Patralekhaa
Debut film: CityLights
Very few debutants would have chosen this film as their ticket to Bollywood. Patralekhaa made a brilliant debut in Citylights where she essayed the role of a migrant who goes through hardships and is in short of money. Her performance was praised by likes of Shabana Azmi and Vidya Balan.
Armaan Jain
Debut film: Lekar Hum Deewana Dil
Armaan Jain has movies running in his genes; after all he’s the grandson of the great showman Raj Kapoor. He reminds some of the young Rishi Kapoor while some believe he’s the next big thing just like his cousin Ranbir. Though Armaan’s debut film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil bombed at the box office, this bundle of talent was praised for his boy-next-door act. And for all we know, even Ranbir kick started his career with a flop. All the more hopes!
Deeksha Seth
Debut film: Lekar Hum Deewana Dil
South imports hardly disappoint. And expectations were high from Deeksha Seth.
Her Hindi film debut, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is not an impressive one but Deeksha promises a bright future in B-town if she gets the right kind of scripts in her kitty.
Tahir Bhasin
Debut film: Mardaani
We can rightly call Tahir the dark horse of the 2014. He surprised everyone with his negative role in Mardaani. At such a young age, the actor was able to steal the show from someone like Rani Mukerji in his first film itself. His act is also regarded as one best negative performances of the year. The critics raved about him and Yash Raj have taken this talented Delhi boy under their wings.
Kiara Advani
Debut film: Fugly
This girl started off with her share of controversies. It was said that she bagged Fugly because of Salman Khan’s recommendation. Fugly didn’t create any buzz and this pretty girl lost a big chance, nevertheless her performance didn’t go unnoticed. She deserves better films.
Imran Abbas
Debut film: Creature 3D
Imran Abbas has made it to the World’s Most Sexiest Men list. And he surely has the looks of a Bollywood romantic hero. Even though Creature 3D has been a damp squib at the box-office, a second chance will help his actor make it big in b-town.
Daisy Shah
Debut film: Jai Ho
This background dancer got a big break in Hindi films opposite none other than Salman Khan. But we think that Daisy Shah lacks the spark a Salman Khan heroine needs to have. She dances well but her screen presence was unimpressive in Jai Ho.
Mohit Marwah
Debut film: Fugly
The handsome young Delhi guy has been ignored this year but we think he has in him to make it big in this industry. Recently there were rumors that he’d signed a Karan Johar film. Let’s see where Sonam Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor’s cousin reaches in the future.
Mishti
Debut film: Kaanchi
Mishti had to carry her debut film on her shoulder since it was a woman-oriented one. Kaanchi bombed at the box-office but Subhashi Ghai’s latest discovery was praised for her talent. The girl has great screen presence and only time will tell where she belongs.
Jay Bhanushali
Debut film: Hate Story 2
Jay Bhanushali is television's boy-next-door and the most popular host. The actor made his debut in the erotic and thriller based film, Hate Story 2. Though the actor didn't have a major role in the film, he showed great screen presence in the film. He will be next seen in Leela oppposite Sunny Leone
Surveen Chawla
Debut film: Hate Story 2
This television actress ditched her miss goody-two-shoes avatar for her debut film Hate Story 2. Her woman-oriented erotica flick was a hit at the box-office. Surveen locked lips, shot intimate scenes and left no stone unturned to make this film a crowd puller. The actress who has earlier starred in Punjabi and South films looked pretty confident on the big screen.
Vijender Singh
Debut film: Fugly
All eyes were on Vijender Singh when he chose to drop his gloves and face the camera. The boxer has a great female fan following thanks to his ripped physique. Sadly his debut film, Fugly didn’t work at the box office and didn’t do any good to the actor. Well we think this sportsman looks great on the big screen as much as he does in the boxing ring.
Humaima Malick
Debut film: Raja Natwarlal
Pakistani model Humaima Malick starred opposite Emraan Hashmi in Kunal Deshmukh’s Raja Natwarlal. The film bombed at the box-office. Humaima has great sex appeal but lacks that extra bit of glint of a Bollywood heroine.
Sidharth Shukla
Debut film: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania
Expectations were pretty high from TV hottie Sidhharth Shukla when he signed his first Bollywood film, Dharma Production’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. Even though he played second fiddle to Varun Dhawan, this hunk made every bit of his presence felt on the big screen. However, Siddharth really needs to work on his two left feet since dancing is a major part of mainstream cinema. The camera loves him as much as his ardent fans and he seems to have all the magic factors to make it big.
Darshan Kumar
Debut film: Mary Kom
We can easily tout Darshan Kumar’s debut as the toughest one from the lot. Sharing the screen with a powerhouse performer like Priyanka Chopra in a biopic and yet managing to stand out is not everyone’s cup of tea. Darshan essayed the role of Mary Kom’s husband with remarkable ease and confidence. His act was appreciated by the critics and Mary Kom’s husband, Onler himself.
Freddy Daruwala
Debut film: Holiday
Looks like the ladies will soon dump the typical romantic heroes and worship this man with grey shades. Freddy Daruwala aka Farhad looked sizzling hot in Holiday. Akshay Kumar even called the hot male candy the best discovery of 2014.
Mannara
Debut film: Zid
Priyanka and Parineeti Chopra’s cousin made her debut in last week’s release, Zid. Though the film has generated negative reviews the actress has a potential to make it big. Mannara tries her best to make an impactful debut in this film but the script doesn’t work in its favour.
