The Wall Street Journal is reporting that HTC's engineers have been travelling back-and-forth between Mountain View, California, to collaborate on the development of the product. Reportedly, the product is being called the Nexus 9.

Earlier in the month, a patent lawsuit filed by Nvidia, against Qualcomm and Samsung also revealed that the HTC Nexus 9 will be using the Tegra K1 tablet. Currently, it is not known whether it will have the 32-bit version of the Tegra K1 or the 64-bit version of the SoC.

The only tablet that is using the Tegra K1 is the Xiaomi MiPad.

As things are shaping up, it appears that the Nexus 9 is going to be a successor to the Samsung made Nexus 10 rather than the Nexus 7. The Nexus 10 was released way back in 2012, alongside the Nexus 4 smartphone.

It is likely that the tablet will be launch alongside the public release of Android L. Currently, Android L is on track to be launched in October.
