Canberra golfer Nikki Campbell finishes in top 10 at Tenerife Open

By David Polkinghorne

Canberra golfer Nikki Campbell continued her stellar season with yet another top-10 finish, climbing to equal fifth on the final day of the Tenerife Open on Sunday.

Campbell started the day tied 11th, but a round of four under resulted in her eighth top-10 finish on the Ladies European Tour this year. It is Campbell's second season on the tour, with the 34-year-old spending most of her career playing in Japan before deciding on a change of scenery.

She is fifth on the tour's order of merit with almost $200,000 in earnings this year.

Fellow Canberran Brendan Jones will look to carry his momentum from the ANA Open into his next Japan Golf Tour event, the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup in Ibaraki, which starts on Thursday. Jones finished equal 22nd in the ANA Open at nine under, having scraped through to make the cut after breaking even over his first two rounds.

The 39-year-old is starting to recapture the form that has made him a 13-time winner in Japan following a lengthy battle with a wrist injury.
