A new scheme announced by the state government to construct cattle shed for the beneficiaries of the cattle scheme will give a new experience to the unskilled labourers of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS).

TRICHY : A new scheme announced by the state government to construct cattle shed for the beneficiaries of the cattle scheme will give a new experience to the unskilled labourers of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGS). All is set to roll out the scheme in Trichy with the state government planning to utilize the MGNREGS beneficiaries to implement it.
Those who availed the cattle - milch cows, goats and poultry will be benefitted from the new scheme.
In the first phase, the cattle shed will be constructed for 190 beneficiaries of milch cows in nine villages, 380 beneficiaries of goats in 31 villages, and five beneficiaries of poultry in three villages in Andhanallur, Manikandam and Manapparai blocks falling under the chief minister's Srirangam constituency.
The cattle shed will be constructed in various measurements depending upon the number of cattle. The cattle shed for milch cows will be constructed at an outlay of Rs 165.01 lakh while the shed for goats will be implemented by spending Rs 338.95 lakh. The fund allotted for the shed for poultry is Rs 3.85 lakh. "The objective of the scheme is to ensure protection to the cattle given by the state government. We have selected beneficiaries from a few villages in the district for this year. The construction work will be executed by the beneficiaries of MGNREGS," said R Mohanarangam, joint director, department of animal husbandry, Trichy . In Trichy district, the scheme was launched in 2011-2012. Under the scheme, 1,350 milch cows worth Rs 4.65 crore, 59,964 goats worth Rs 19 crore were distributed till 2013-14. tnn
But under this scheme, they will get Rs 167 for a day's work. "We have sent the administrative sanction for constructing cattle shed. The work will begin in a week's time," S Ramasamy, project director, district rural development agency (DRDA) told TOI.
