ZIMBABWE limited overs skipper Elton Chigumbura opened his account in the Twenty20 Champions League on a losing note after his Barbados Tridents side crashed to a four-wicket loss in Mohali, India, on Saturday.
Chigumbura is the only Zimbabwean taking part in the Twenty20 Champions League and is featuring for the West Indies champions who lost their first match against the Punjab Kings XI.

The Zimbabwe ODI and Twenty20 captain, batting at number six, did not produce any fireworks as he was dismissed for just three, off five balls, in his side’s competitive score of 174-6.

Chigumbura perished when he was caught by man-of-the-match David Miller off the bowling of right arm medium pacer, Parvinder Awana.
Raymond Reifer top-scored for the Tridents with an unbeaten 60 while opener Dilshan Munaweera scored 50.

But Zimbabwe One-Day International (ODI) captain Elton Chigumbura is in India for the 2014 Oppo Champions League Twenty20 tournament.
Miller’s unbeaten 46, from 34 balls, powered the Kings XI past the line with two balls to spare.

Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Saturday that their ODI skipper would be plunging into the Twenty20 Champions League action and they expected him to be a success story.

“This follows the acquisition of his services by the Barbados Tridents, winners of this year’s edition of the Caribbean Premier League,” ZC said in a statement.
“Chigumbura joins a side whose batting is led by former South African international Neil McKenzie and former New Zealand international James Franklin with familiar names in the attack being West Indies pacers Ravi Rampaul and Jason Holder.

“The Zimbabwe all-rounder is expected to continue with the form that saw him lead hosts Zimbabwe to their first victory over Australia in 31-years, during the Triangular ODI series that included South Africa.

“In that match at the Harare Sports Club on the 31st of last month, Chigumbura put up a man-of-match performance, finishing with an unbeaten 52 as Zimbabwe beat Australia by three wickets.”
