Tokyo Tribe Creator Santa Inoue to Attend Hollywood Film Screening

Los Angeles film premiere will be held on October 4

Tokyo Tribe manga creator Santa Inoue, actor Akihiro Kitamura, and actress Hitomi Katayama will attend the Los Angeles premiere of the Tokyo Tribe live-action film at the Egyptian Theatre on October 4. Tickets are currently on sale.

The story follows the struggles of street gangs in a near-future version of Tokyo. The movie stars Ryōhei Suzuki (HK/Hentai Kamen) as Bukuro Wu-Ronz gang leader Mera and hip-hop artist YOUNG DAIS as Kai in the rival gang Musashino Saru. Director and writer Shion Sono (Suicide Club, Himizu, All Esper Dayo!) selected DAIS from the film's open auditions on YouTube. Japanese-American hip-hop artist and singer AI performs the theme song "HOPE -TOKYO TRIBE ANTHEM" with fellow artists YOUNG DAIS, SIMON, and Y'S.

XYZ Films is representing the film internationally. The film made its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month.

Madhouse adapted the same manga series into the 13-episode Tokyo Tribe 2 television anime series in 2006. The original manga has a total of 2.5 million copies in print. Tokyopop published six of 12 volumes under the name Tokyo Tribes in North America. Inoue ended his Tokyo Tribe 3 sequel manga in 2012.
