ALOR STAR: Local government authorities in Kedah have been urged to adhere to gazetted rules and regulations when deciding on development project applications.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir (pix) said the local councils should use the gazetted documents as their guidelines when making decisions.
"This is to avoid any decisions which can be questioned," he said in his speech when issuing the letters of appointment to members of the 2014 - 2017 Kedah Appeals Board (KAB).
The current eight-member board is headed by Datuk Ahmad Zakiuddin Harun while his deputy is Ahmad Farid Zakaria.
The other members are Datuk Wira Hashim Mat Noor, Datuk Seraja Wangsa Syed Azizan Syed Mohamad Al-Idrus, Datuk Wira Mahkota Ismail Hamid, Wan Fatimah Md Arshad, Chin Len Chong and Aishah Abdullah.
Mukhriz said to date the board has received 57 appeal cases since it was set up in 2000.
He said the decisions of the KAB had to be based on the structure plan, local plans and special area plans as these plans formed the references for development planning.
